Should there be a limit to freedom of speech? Why/Why not? Use examples to support your claims.
Briefly Discuss Responses
Reading- Charlie Hebdo Articles (I gave just a little background on how it has to do with freedom of speech.) I have attached the articles.
Writing- In your journal create a t-chart showing "for" and "against" U.S. newspapers printing Hebdo's cartoons. Based on your reading, come up with three claims for each side.
Writing- Using your t-chart, choose one claim and write a paragraph supporting your claim. Include a counterargument and refute it.
Here is the template I used:
U.S. Newspapers should/should not print Charlie Hebdo's cartoons because _______________________________________.
For example, ______________________________________________________________
(Counter Claim) ______________________________________________________________
(Refute the Counter Claim) ______________________________________________________________
(Summary Sentence) ______________________________________________________________
If you were writing a large essay about this, you may want to put your counterclaims together in a paragraph, instead of integrating them throughout their claims. Either way, they must address the counterclaims.
