Read- Read to Chapter 4
- I read pages 61-74 (stopped at "One October Day...")
As I read, I stopped and discussed thematic content and pointed out the literary elements of modernism that Fitzgerald employed. For example, the sudden transitions from scene to scene and the stream of consciousness technique can leave the reader confused at time.
Discussion Questions-
1. Why does the Nick talk about all of these different people who went to Gatsby's house/party? What do they symbolize?
2. What is the American Dream?
3. What do they all have in common when it comes to the American Dream?
4. Is money necessary for anyone to achieve the American Dream?
- Checks for understanding along the way
Silent Reading- Students finished Chapter 4 on their own and wrote their three questions and two vocabulary words in their dialogue journals.
