Prefix/Suffix/Root Activity- Mini-Posters
- Each row was assigned a list and each person in the row was asked to chose a prefix, suffix, or root from their assigned list. They created a small poster for their chosen word part. The poster had to give clues as to the meaning of the word part/cell, but they were not allowed to use other words on the poster. For example, if a student chose chrono- they might turn the "o" into a clock to indicate "time" since that's what the word cell means. Examples were shown on the board. On the back of the poster, students were asked to write three words that used their word cell. They were asked to put their name and period on the bottom right corner of the front of their poster.
- Gallery Walk- Students displayed their completed posters on the bookcases at the back of the room and everyone used their word list sheet to determine, while viewing, which posters did the best job of getting the meaning across without using words.
Vocabulary Flashcards (Study with partner)
- Students should have 30 flashcards they have completed and have been using to study at the end of each class period.
