Bell Ringer: STAR TESTING (Building mandated testing- not classroom)
This test takes approximately 30 minutes and provides an overview of basic reading skills and vocabulary. These help us determine future instruction.

Review- Outline/Organizing Research Paper
*You may use a CDW Chart or the graphic organizer that is attached. You may also do a Roman numeral outline. Due to class time being cut into with testing, I offered the graphic organizer as a shortened outline.
1. Decide which leader is more effective
2. Based on your research, develop three strong claims that say why that leader is effective.
3. Provide evidence (quotes) from your research articles, that PROVE each claim. I recommend having at least four quotes to support each claim. On your CDW Chart, or graphic organizer, you must include the source number with the quote/data point.
4. Develop your counterclaims. What made the OTHER leader a good leader?
5. Refute the counterclaims.
On your outline, it may simply look like X v Y
Bus Act (source 5) v. Multiple Marches (source 2)
One Arrest (source 6) v. Martyred (source 3)
Note:
In your paper, your counterclaims and refutation may be structured in numerous ways. We will discuss these more during the rough draft portion of your paper.
Example- Even though Rosa Parks was a great inspiration to other African Americans, her one famous Montgomery City bus act in 1955 ("Story Behind the Bus") does not make her a more effective leader than Martin Luther King who committed numerous acts that demanded media attention. Furthermore, even though she risked her life, she did not give her life to the cause like MLK did. "Insert quote about his death date and the effect his death had on civil rights." Source the quote.
6. Finish Strong/Clincher
Find a quote, preferably by your leader, that sums up what they stand for and why they're a great leader. End your paper with this quote.
**** If you don't finish your outline, please complete it as homework and come back to class with it completed. We will be moving on to the rough draft next class period and I will walk you through/model the intro paragraph.
