Prompt: Describe a pet peeve. Why does it bother you so much? If you were in charge of the world, what would the satirical consequence or punishment be? (Discussion of satire prior to starting the time and two examples given prior to starting time)

Example in Book- If the driving age was lowered, what would be the effect or outcome?
Apply this to your pet peeve's consequences or punishment. Add a sentence or two to your freewrite explaining what the effect of your consequence would be.
Review- ethos, pathos, logos (terms introduced last year)
Assignment: 60 Second Sermon
- Use ideas from your freewrite to create a 60 second (one page) sermon/speech about the sin (pet peeve).
- Use 20 words from the Old English word list (handout attached below)
- Use basic essay format to create your speech:
I. Intro
A) Hook
B) Say/Briefly describe the sin (pet peeve)
C) Thesis- Clearly state your pet peeve and that it is a sin that should be punished
II. 2-3 Body Paragraphs
Support your claim by giving evidence and/or examples of your pet peeve.
Use some pathos and logos to persuade your audience and convince them that your pet peeve should be considered a sin
Be sure to explain the punishment or consequences your are proposing
III. Conclusion
- Restate you thesis
- Discuss the outcome (effect) of your proposed punishments
- End with a clincher
