Grouping Activity- Physical Activity Grouping
- Based on responses, students shifted from one group to another noting people who frequently appeared in their group (Example- everyone with the same personality score stand together).
- Students were ultimately placed in groups based on the results of their personality and favorites assessments
Democratic Process in Groups
- Round 1- Groups of three agreed on a group name. They shared their complaint list with members in their group and collectively agreed on their top two as a group. (5 min.)
(When they finished, each group taped their neon index card/group name on the board and wrote their two complaints next to their card)
- Round 2- After I read through each group's complaint on the board (and allowed clarification), each group was given 60 seconds to agree on two complaints (from the board), that they would vote on.
- Round 3- Each group voted for two complaints.
- Round 4- All complaints receiving one or fewer votes were erased and groups were given 60 seconds to pick two again to vote on.
- Round 5- Only the top two remained; all others were erased.
Groups were allowed to vote once and the complaint receiving the most votes, became the class complaint.
- Round 6- List of reasons (20) that this is their complaint- The class collectively came up with this list and it was recorded on the board.
Objective- These activities were modeled after the structure and process used n the drafting of the Declaration of Independence to make real life connections to historical procedures and literature.
(Process to be continued next week)
