- Using the poem, students identified sound devices and discussed how both the literary devices and sound devices helped sell the theme of the poem
Reviewed 3 Column Chart on the Whiteboard: Literary Devices, Theme/Tone, and Sound Devices
Discussion- Proving Your Theme (similar to proving a thesis in a research paper). Students must use text based evidence to prove their theme is correct. I modeled how to do that and how to cite it (line number at the end of the quotes words/phrases/lines they used from the poem).
Write- Students Wrote a Two Paragraph Analysis of the Poem
- Paragraph one (using the first line that they developed earlier) - Students had to prove their theme was correct. They also had to discuss how the diction (word choice) determined the tone of the poem and influenced the theme.
- Paragraph two - Students had to discuss the literary and sound devices the author used and how these devices contributed to the meaning of the poem. They were asked to end their analysis by restating the theme.
Typing- Students used the Chromebooks to type and submit their analysis
