- Students were given two consecutive periods in which to type the first draft of their paper.
Day One (Daily Work Grade)
3 Paragraphs= A
2 Paragraphs= B
1 Paragraph (intro)= C
* Point deductions if body paragraphs were not sourced and/or did not have at least six sentences.
Day Two (Daily Work Grade)
6 Paragraphs (total)= A
5 Paragraphs = B
4 Paragraphs= C
* Point deductions if body paragraphs were not sourced and/or did not have at least six sentences.
Note: Students will have one more 45 minute period in which to type their annotated bibliography (which they have already written) and their final three paragraphs. If they do not finish their paper next period, it will be homework.
Students may turn in this paper any time throughout third quarter, but they will receive a zero in the gradebook after February 17th. They may still submit it for full credit after that date, but zeroes will be entered to alert students and parents to the fact that the nine paragraph research paper (with annotated bibliography) has not been completed.
This paper is preparatory for their senior project paper.
A sample outline was provided on the board, but students may structure their body paragraphs differently. For example, they may want to do claim/counterclaim paragraphs instead of two paragraphs for each claim. The example shown on the board, (see the example below), puts the counterclaims in one paragraph toward the end of the essay. As long as they have nine paragraphs that include an intro, a conclusion, three claims, and counterclaims, they are welcome to structure it as they choose. However, it must make sense and transitions must be smooth.
